The service

The Scientific Institute provides independent scientific review of consumer products: desk review of ingredients, labels, and marketing claims, and, where the engagement includes it, laboratory testing through accredited third-party partner laboratories. Deliverables, scope, timing, and fees for a review are set out in the written quote for each engagement.

The badge

• A badge is issued only when a product passes our review methodology. Fees pay for review work and laboratory testing regardless of outcome; they never purchase a verdict.
• Badges are licensed per product for 12 months and must reference the product's verification page.
• We may revoke a badge if the product's formulation changes, the license lapses, marketing claims materially exceed what was reviewed, or credible evidence emerges that the product no longer meets the reviewed standard.

Not government approval

Our reviews and badges do not constitute approval, endorsement, or certification by the FDA or any government agency, and do not replace or reduce a brand's own regulatory obligations.

Confidentiality

Reviews that do not result in a badge are confidential. We do not publish failed reviews.

Liability

Reviews reflect the materials and samples provided and the state of published evidence at the time of review. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any engagement is limited to the fees paid for that engagement.
